15th January - Friday
Hello Reception - Welcome to Friday - You have worked really hard this week, well done!
Session 1 - Handwriting
Daily handwriting –
This is a web address to a link that we use in school. The children are all at very different stages in their handwriting, letter formation and pencil grip. This site takes you through the stages. Last term we looked at the straight lines. We are now on curves. It shows you a little clip first and then you get a chance to have a go. If you could start each day with a little bit of handwriting – it will help with letter formation.
We are also going to work through a letter a day. Use your white board.

Phonics
Set 2 sounds: Oo – poo at the zoo (one of my favourite ones to remember – it is a little bit ‘naughty!!)
This is today’s sound have a go at the resource sheet from Read Write Inc.
Can you say the sound?
Can you practise writing the letters?
Can you read the sound when it is in other words?
Can you make some flash cards from the words on the sheet – play a game with them – turn them over / read them / if you get them right you get to keep them – if you don’t they go to your opponent.
Can you add the ay, ee, igh and oo words to make a really challenging game today?

We continue with the concept of missing numbers today. I am going to go through today’s focus with the children if you can’t make the session have a look at the link below – once you have watched the White Rose session have a go at the challenge. Could you ask someone in your house to play your game today? With a container (bucket, bag, bowl, etc.) and a collection of items (buttons, beads, blocks) give some items to your partner, hide the rest in the container. By looking at your partner’s collection can you work out how many are hiding in the bucket? Repeat and add to the collection of items. I have also added some powerpoints that you might want to go through - just for fun! |
Religious Education
Today we officially start our new topic ‘Celebrations’
I would like the children to think about any celebrations that they have experienced.
Christmas / birthday/ baptism / wedding / naming ceremony / new baby / family gathering!
If you have any photographs or memorabilia from the events could you show them to the children. Have a chat about them.
Task: To draw and write a short sentence about one of the occasions.
Things to consider:
Did you go to a special place?
Did you wear special clothes?
Did you need to give the person something?
Did you get something given to you?
Were there any decorations?
What time of year was it?
Did you eat something?
Who was there?
Expressive Arts and Design
Just for fun!
If you would like to design a tie for the Smartest Giant I have added a outline below.
Think about patterns, colours, a repeated pattern - stripes are good for this. Is there a pattern on something at home that you could copy. Or you could draw a picture on the tie.
Or just make one - don't worry about the outline!
Have fun.
