Key Stage Two
Following on from Year Two, Years Three to Six hold both daily reading lessons and a focused session on Monday. This longer session allows for time to fully explore a text and respond to it. This may be through unpicking vocabulary used, responding to the themes of the text or through challenging their comprehension of what they have read.
Every class enjoys daily reading sessions. This can be from the shared text or from a different source: a picture book, extract, a news extract or an online article, for example. The purpose of this is to share vocabulary, enjoyment and interest in texts.
Children take home a book within their ZPD level. They are expected to complete their Accelerated Reader points target each half term. This is set individually for all pupils – depending upon their reading ability and time expected to read daily.
