11th February - Thursday

Good morning Reception welcome to today’s learning.

I look forward to seeing you all later on Zoom.

For a little bit of variety this week I have added some new ideas.  You may have a family favourite that you like to start your day with – (which is fine) But here is a warm-up and some plans for you. The plan will give you ideas and some props you may need to collect – they are all things from around the house.

I have attached a lesson plan below for you –

Here is the video link to help you visualise the session.

Task 1 is called - Knee Tag

Task 2 is called - Around the bodies

Task 3 is called  - Balancing act

You may want to try one a day or all three each day? I hope you have fun!

Don’t forget there is also Joe Wicks and Cosmic Kids to help you get active.

Session 1 - Handwriting

Today’s Handwriting

Our next letter for our alphabet practice today is xxxx.

Have a go at ‘xxxx’

Remember all letters start at the top!

Session 2 - Maths - Zoom session

Maths – Growing 6,7,8 today we are measuring height.

Here is the link from White Rose to see what Miss cooper has to say  -

https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/early-years/growing-6-7-8-week-3/

A quick game to get started – the cards show a number – do they match?

Today's maths is based on Jasper's Beanstalk again today - but today we are looking at the height of the beanstalk that Jasper is growing.

Miss Cooper looks hat how many cubes high Jaspers bean stalk is.  I will go through this with the children in our lesson on Zoom today.

Your task today: Can you have a go at planting a seed in the garden – you need to be patient like Jasper.  If you would like to make a paper plant, you could create some flowers today of different lengths.

I have added some more resources for you below, 'Sophie's sunflowers' to have a look at the measuring of plants.

Breaktime

Share a story / listen to a story

This is a cartoon version of The Great Race story.

Session 3 - Communication Language and Literacy

Today we are going to have a look at the celebrations for Chinese New year.  There are some programmes to watch from Ceebies.  As the technology was not great before on a film clip I will ask you to watch these either before or after the session.  I will go through some pictures and other information with the children in our session today.

Here is a Ceebies link to a shot programme about a Chinese family living in Liverpool.  In the first programme they are getting the house ready.

In the second programme they are in China Town enjoying the celebrations.

What have you learnt about the celebrations that are involved in the Chinese New Year?

You may want to watch them a couple of times to help the information sink in…

Here are some things that may help trigger your memory.

Why does the house get cleaned?

What is the special colour?  Why?

What did the children get a something new in the morning?

What did the children get in an envelope? What colour was the envelope?

What do they eat?  How many bowls / different dishes?

What did they write / make at Chinese school?

Your Task: Can you write a list of all the things that you remember from our session today and the film clips.  Can you draw a picture of your favourite one?

Session 4 - Expressive Art and Design

Chinese crafts -Arty time.  Have fun choosing one of the activities from the list.  You may choose to make a Chinese lantern – like the one the little girl made on the film clip this morning.

Phonics - session 5

As we are now at the end of all our set 2 sounds – it is just a matter of practise, practise, practise.

You need to build your confidence and become familiar with the sounds, so you are able to spot them as ‘special friends’ when you see them in a word.  Continue to read as many books as possible – Oxford Owl Ebooks are a good resource.  And don’t forget to come in on Thursday to collect your books on Thursday.

I have added some phonics games below, there are many more to choose from on Twinkl – they are a great resource.

Try this phonics game.

This is the link for a phonics play game – give it a go. You can go up the levels if you are managing OK on stage 2 words.

Well done for some great learning today

See you tomorrow
